Jay and Belle - Avalon, NSW
There's always something that makes my heart sing at weddings, and something super special about being asked to capture a dear friends special day. The pressure, so much pressure to do a perfect job! Belle and I worked together in what feels like another lifetime, and I've always been drawn to her warmth and kindness. I went on to have babies and my career took one path in a fork in the road, and she moved on to other things, but we have always kept tabs on each others lives, and shared in each others ups and downs. I was so thrilled when she asked me to photograph their engagement a few years ago, and even more thrilled when they asked me to capture their wedding day!
I arrived in gorgeous Avalon on a perfect spring day. Their beautiful home was calm and serene, with Belle occupying the upstairs as her getting ready space, and the boys taking over the entire downstairs. It was slightly thrilling watching them weave and dodge each other for the morning! It was also a rare treat for me, as I usually work solo and miss a lot of a grooms preparation. Turns out i'm not missing as much excitement as I imagined - they really DO just throw on some clothes with 10 min to spare!! Jay had a slightly more elaborate process, sentimentally choosing to wear his Army uniform on his special day. It was a beautiful symbolic gesture, knowing that this would be the last time he ever wore his uniform - the closing of one chapter of his life, and the start of a new one.
They were married at the beautiful Avalon Beach Surf Club, and around 20 or so gorgeous breaching whales entertained their guests on the balcony whilst we snuck off to take some pictures. Perfection!
